Cagliari, 1959

Teatro Massimo

After the success at Teatro San Carlo in Naples in 1958, the following year La Jura was inserted in  the Teatro Lirico of Cagliari's opera season where it was performed on May 21st and 22nd, 1959.
At first, the orchestra was conducted by Dante Ullu, but unfortunately during the rehearsals he had to leave because health issues and was replaced by Nino Bonavolotà, who, according to a review published in the newspaper L'Unione Sarda on May 22nd, «conducted the orchestra with an intelligent and passionate manner, which grasped the spirit of the opera».
The leading male role, Cicciottu Jacòni, was played by the tenor Angelo Lo Forese, while the leading female role, Anna Filianu, was interpreted by the soprano Anna Maria Frati.
The opera was performed using the same staging at Teatro San Carlo, with the sets made by Cesare Maria Cristini based on the sketches by Melkiorre Melis.
